Coaching Questions:

What are your “go-to” scriptural passages which keep you rooted in becoming the kind of vessel whom God uses?

• In what ways would you like to be asked about your walk with the Lord? Describe how you cultivate intimacy with the Lord.

• In what ways would you not feel encouraged when being asked about your walk with the Lord?

• Describe a time when you did not feel encouraged in how someone asked you about your growth in the Lord? Describe how you felt?

• Describe a time where someone helped you move forward in your personal growth in the Lord. How did they frame their questions which inspired?

• Describe your practice of the “presence of God” daily. In what other spiritual disciplines are you practicing intentional growth? (e.g, silence and solitude, meditation and memorization of God’s Word, listening prayer increase…)

• Everyone has a specific area of former language of captivity. In other words, lies which we each tend to believe which need to be recognize, renounced, repented of responses to, and replacing former scripts with God’s promises. We need the redemptive ways of God’s truth and healing hand. In another way of thinking, consider your most vulnerable patterned area of believing Satan’s deceptions and the roots connected as “kryptonite” areas. Meaning, places where we each tend to go weak-kneed instead of face down. Areas where we need to believe God’s truth in overcoming ways. Describe a vulnerable area and how God is growing you into His truth and healing in these areas.

• Based upon specific Holy Spirit led action steps for in the area of Abide (Becoming the Vessels Whom God uses), how well would you say you are progressing? Share an example where you followed through and saw the Lord’s empowerment to do so. What is greatest hindrance for your local partners and new local leaders to becoming vessels whom God uses?

• What do you need to “stop doing”, and/or “start doing” in order to increase in “living out of the overflow” of being transformed into the kind of person whom God uses?

DMM: Coaching Questions for Heart and Four Fields-Reproduce Laborers Part 1

Reproduce Laborers Part I

Coaching Questions:

What are your “go-to” scriptural passages which keep you rooted in reproducing laborers?

• How are you praying when it comes to asking God for near-culture and indigenous catalysts?

As an outside catalyst, I am asking, “Lord, please build this team with inside catalysts and/or near neighbor workers who can help get the gospel and the end vision planted within the heart of local believers who will multiply to reach their people.” Pray that daily!!

• How often have you listed all the believers you know who are in your area? In what ways could I increase in praying for movement vision for them? In what ways am I recruiting intercessors to join me in this request? Mobilize prayer for end vision DNA for them.

• Describe ways you are presently casting vision effectively to: *faithful followers? *traditional CPers? *3rd and 4th stage churches? *new POPs? *ministry partners—organization, home church, donors? *Near neighbor workers?

• What DMM training process to reproduce laborers will you facilitate when you find someone who is interested? Who else can you bring along as a trainer as you? How well do you feel you can evaluate next steps with those person/persons?

• What is your follow up process in going out among the lost with the ones you are training?

• What is your follow up process in coaching on-goingly, those who are desiring to implement?

• In what ways can you increase in prayer and mobilizing prayer for laborers? In what ways is the Lord leading you to obey the Luke 10:2 command to ask the Lord of the harvest to thrust out workers into His harvest fields?

• One of CPM global patterns when it comes to possible workers is to be intentional to ask the Lord to lead one to the people who are hungry to see a change in the status quo. How might you utilize this pattern in looking for those whom God is raising up to equip them to reproduce?

• Who are the people who resonate with the 4 stages of a movement/church life doc?Who among local workers is simply desperate for help/relief from over work? Being fruitful but at capacity?

• Who are the people who are already serving in this area?

• With a posture of a life-long learner and in heaps of humility, listen to these workers. Listen to their stories. Affirm them where you can. Pray with them for their needs, challenges, hopes, fears. Listen to what they pray for and what they pray for you as they pray for you.

• Go out with them prayer-walking. See their heart and what they do. How do you observe their level of teachability in how they interact with others and with you?

• Let them see what you do. Model with them as you implement together. How could you increase in this area of taking others with you as you look for Persons of Peace? What are context specific challenges which you need ideas to overcome in this area of MAWL?

• When you sense the timing fit, establish that we seem to be like-minded in that we both desire to see the fulfillment of the Great Commission. (Establish common points of common ground) • Ask them to write out a pathway to loving and obeying Jesus in these words of Matthew 28:16-20. Ask them to do so on a napkin or one sheet of paper (with chalk, in the sand, with stick figure, e.g.) Then, ask them if anyone who desires, both uneducated as well as highly educated could look over the pathway to making disciples and do likewise? Then, if they are still with you, offer to draw out a pathway which is 2,000 years new which is based upon Jesus and what He modeled to His disciples and to us. How well can you draw out the DMM Heart and Four Fields in a simple format?

• Model Luke 10 and DMM vision and DNA.

• Who is willing to gather a group to be trained?

• Who are new believers (harvested-harvesters) who are potential to be trained to enter the harvest force?

• Who are people who have started new work and are unsure of next steps or are stuck at some stage?

• If you do not feel equipped in the ability to get the help they need, then who do you plan on contacting to get coached in helping you to further be equipped to coach them?

• Who is already using simple tools? Reproducible tools? Vision Cast for movements with them.

• Who are gateway workers who could/would open worker communities?

• Based upon specific HS led action steps for your AMP in the area of reproduce laborers, how well would you say you are progressing? Share an example where you followed through and saw the Lord’s empowerment to do so. What is greatest hindrance for your local partners and new local leaders to reproduce laborers (train others to implement)?

• What do you need to “stop doing”, and/or “start doing” in order to trust God to raise up other laborers?

DMM: Coaching Questions for Heart and Four Fields-Reproduce Laborers Part 2

Ways to get workers connected or involved:
Coaching Questions:

Have all potential laborers come together to unite around prayer. Each one can share what they are willing to share. Others may find that they are also involved in a similar project or are interested in certain kinds of ministries and they can connect and talk more. At the very least they can pray for one another.

• Unite around common, short-term projects. Listen to their hearts and their vision. Connect them to others who can help. (Note: Money inserted into any relationship of outsider with near-neighbor culture workers is potentially one of the most difficult areas to discern. Be coached by others who are CPM seasoned and can walk you through how money could kill movements if not handled wisely.)

• Work together to create prayer tools that can be used across organizations and across teams.

• Be there for workers who are experiencing crisis, whether in their home, in their ministry, or back at home. People remember who was caring in crisis and will come to you for vision or advice in other areas.

• Float simple CPM DNA kinds of projects out there and see who responds. Jesus invited His disciples to do small things and through those things they were ready for larger things. (schedule prayer walking times, where you create on-ramps in modeling getting into POP fishing type conversations, e.g.)

Remember:

• No one wants to work “your plan” or “your” agenda. As team changes, strategy plans should be revisited and adopted as team. Be clear on the vision which the Father has called you to in CPM, graciously but firmly stay fixed on the End Vision.

• There are workers, and there are workers. Sometimes none or few workers is better than folks who would seek to guide the ministry in a different direction. Make clear the End Vision you feel called to in CPM, whether it is a short-term team who wants to come to your UPG through your help, or long-term potential workers.

• Let End Vision lead your team and your teams of workers. You can unite around common vision, and you can also evaluate alignment of vision. It is easier to part ways if vision is what unites you, and not personalities.

• Sometimes teams split or change. Do not take it personally and try to save relationships even if not working relationships. Even Paul had a few team splits. If they don’t apply what has been trained, or are not fruitful or applying, keep moving. We coach and mentor those who are seeking to apply and also the fruitful.

• “Move with the movers, love the lingerers.” We need to love well but also need to be increased in choosing with whom to partner well. There are a few cases where that “lingerer” or “impressed spectator” is drawn by the Father to become a catalytic type at a later time. Ask God who might be a “lingerer” with whom you are spending time? How might you challenge them one more time to the End Vision with expressed opportunity to reconnect if they ever feel called to this same vision in the future?

• Local workers want to be valued for themselves, not what they add to the work. When they are equipped, coached on-going, they could be highly effective in reaching their own people. One modern day missiological myth which needs to be in the “paradigm buster” category, is to presume that by virtue of the near neighbor being from a similar culture that they “automatically” are more effective than complete outsiders.

A more fruitful perspective would be to see that without one increasing in God-centric confidence as well as God-centric competence (skillset of equipping) then one’s ability to be most effective is not fully realized. (Note: I am a Texan. I was born and raised in Texas. I know Texans. However, it is a huge leap to presume that I can “automatically” be most effective in multiplying disciple-makers simply by being a Texan. So, it follows that one needs to be equipped by one who models-assists (equips)-watches-love/coaches them to excel in fruit bearing before they can be as effective as God would desire for His glory.) Now, it is true that once the near neighbor person is coached into effective disciple making of reaching households of disciple-makers, that they can run deeper into the culture in ways which a complete outsider might not, that is an observation.

• Partnering for the sake of partnering does not accomplish the end vision. Let the vision be the North Star that unites and God’s love and our one-another-ing be a strong driving factor in how we work together. Your commitment to modeling God’s heart and member health-ing others well is vitally important in this process of what it is to model well. How might the Lord desire to increase this aspect in your own life?

What do you need to stop doing? Start doing? Continue doing in this area?

DMM: Coaching Questions for Heart and Four Fields: Reproduce Evangelism

Reproduce Evangelism (Finding Those Whom God is preparing)
Coaching Questions:

What are your “go-to” scriptural passages which keep you rooted in trusting God to lead you to Persons of Peace?

• How do you start spiritual conversations? How might the Holy Spirit be leading to engage others in spiritual conversations?

• What is your plan for “going?”

• Who are you going with?

• What does “speaking peace” look like in your context?

• How do you “listen” and “look” with God’s ears and eyes for people whom He is drawing?

• How do you recognize a person of peace?

• If someone seems spiritually hungry/open, what is your next question to them?

• How might you increase your focus to reach an oikos?

• Describe your approaches to trusting God to find persons of peace?

• How many of my UPG/population segment will hear the good news today?

• Reread John 6:42-44. Is it more about the messenger than the message when I go?

• Describe how your “stuff” is interfering when you go out looking for POPs? What might you need to change in the way you present yourself, what you bring, etc., to clear a path for the good news?

• Learn to talk with unbelievers from your focus group about felt needs among individuals and communities. Learn to verbalize (in the focus language) appropriate spiritual comments to see if you could find spiritually open people (persons of peace, Luke 10:6). Enter deeper conversations with focus people who seem spiritually open, to ask if they would be willing to gather their family and/or friends to study the Holy Book. Though not limited to but certainly consistent with patterns observed in how the Holy Spirit brings the launch of movements, how often are you trusting the HS to use the following filters for finding persons of peace?

o Shema statements and shema actions (Deut. 6:1-9)
o Patterned lifestyle of shema as well as intentional going out o Learn to identify yourself as follower of Jesus in context appropriate ways
o Personal story of God’s story in your life using contextual language (2 minute version) o Oral Stories of Jesus: felt needs (memorize in local language one Jesus story) o Creation to Christ
o Prayer for blessing using contextual language: e.g. finances, personal needs, family, pregnancy, infertility

• Practice transition sentence(s) to offer the Core Set stories…practice to facilitate a Discovery Group while transitioning after max 4 times as facilitator, continue coaching the indigenous facilitator

• How do I tend to or not tend to settle for individuals because groups are harder to reach in your experience? Describe your approach to “shaking the dust off your feet”.

• Two most difficult key transitions in CPM implementation:

1. Transitioning from great tools and spiritual conversations into a clear simple sentence to invite the POPs and their households/groups to meet for the first story of Discovery Bible Study story set.

2. For CPM catalyst to transition out of the Discovery Group and to continue equipping the inside facilitators. Usually past four times of outsider/near neighbor person being in Discovery Group, will kill reproducibility as well as ability for the DG to learn and obey the Word of God.

How intentionally are you modeling in the coaching of the facilitation of the DG the reproducibility to become harvested-harvesters? Or, is what you are doing creating a group of dependent-dependers as they press into the Word?

• How can I find those folks who naturally love to share or who are natural servants and train them in Luke 10 principles?

• Describe examples you have of natural and creative ways to pray for the lost?

• In what ways am I trusting God to move/work in miraculous ways? Describe how am I going in His authority?

• What examples from Scripture come to mind as ways to look in places where people naturally gather?

• In what ways am I presently listening to God to discern if He is drawing this person?

• Describe typical ways which I tend to get “distracted on the road” by others and not stay focused on finding those God-prepared people? How do my local partners tend to get “distracted on the road?”

• Reread Luke 10, Matthew 10. What are the indications of types of people whom Jesus sends them to find? (How are you modeling being deliberate in looking for households of peace, versus individuals?) What are the biggest hindraces you are finding with your local partners and their focus on looking for households of peace versus settling for individuals?

• Based upon specific Holy Spirit led action steps in the area of reproduce evangelism, how well would you say you are progressing? Share an example where you followed through and saw the Lord’s empowerment to do so. What is the greatest hindrance for your local partners and new local leaders to stand firm in reproduce evangelism (looking for POPs)?

• What do you need to “stop doing”, and/or “start doing” in order to be more intentional in going out among the lost? In taking others with you?

DMM: Raising the Sails-7 High Value Weekly Activities

DMM definition “Obedience-based discipleship that sees disciples reproducing disciples, leaders reproducing leaders, churches reproducing churches, and movements reproducing movements.”

Remember that obedience and reproduction/multiplication are keys to see a movement started. It is an act of the Holy Spirit to start movements, but our obedience to DMM principles is like putting up the sails on a boat. We can only hoist up the sails but unless the wind blows our boat isn’t going anywhere. But what happens if the Spirit begins to move and our sails aren’t up? The boat still won’t move! We want to make sure our “DMM sails” are up so that when the Spirit moves, we can move with Him!

The implementation of the seven essential elements of a DMM can be compared to what it is to raise the sails on a sailboat. There are other aspects to DMM but if we are moving forward in these areas then we are hoisting our sails and getting ready for the move of the Holy Spirit.
1. Multiply extraordinary prayer
2. Focus on God’s Word
3. Cast Vision
4. Train believers to make disciples
5. Go out among the lost
6. See Groups Start (Discovery Groups)
7. On-going Coaching

An Example of a Movement

The Lord is using this type of training around the world among obedient disciples as they implement what they are learning. While no one can predict when movements will be started, as workers have put up their “DMM sails” there has been a mighty wind of the Holy Spirit in every continent resulting in over 1,000 UPG’s!

Here’s one example from South Asia: In South Asia (North India) a husband and wife received this same basic DMM training and they heard God saying two things 1) “listen to me” and 2) find your Paul (you are Barnabas). They found a man who had planted 12 churches in 14 years. As they shared the DMM training with him, he was stunned he had never seen some of these strategies in the Bible. He began to implement the training as well as train other Indians and now God has started 5000+ churches in 4 years. This is one amazing example of what the Spirit did when these disciples put up their DMM sails! 12 churches in 14 years seemed good to this brother (and it was!) until he began implementing multiplication principles. That is when they really began seeing God permeate the UPG among whom they were working.

The Father works through multiplication to see thousands of people reached in a short amount of time.

DMM: Moving with the Movers, Loving the Lingerers

DMM: Moving with the Movers, Loving the Lingerers

“Where are you? You have left us abandoned. We need help to grow. Plus, we have started new Discovery groups and they are ready to believe…”

Two of our formerly engaged DMM local partners who were meandering through life in the past 2 years came to us with fresh vision and fresh commitment.

The reason?

They were rebuked by some of the former new followers (down to 3rd generation DG and 2nd generation housefellowships) which they had formerly been coaching (as we coached them for next steps). We had seen this couple become distracted while leaving these new followers to fend for themselves.  After realizing that we needed to attempt to get into that community to help those new house fellowships continue and to reproduce on-goingly, this newer follower directly confronted our national partners. As we considered how best to re-train the remaining followers…(this is area where our visits bring higher level of scrutiny from area cousin leaders)…we were prepared to enter in there but knew this would bring un-needed attention by doing so…This is when, by the HS leading, the new followers rebuked our zero generation.

Thankfully, our zero generation couple in those streams awakened to what they had abandoned and are on track to coach these newer DGs. One of these new Discovery Groups has believed and been dunked. Huge levels of intimidation have come to these newer followers to which they have stood against…Luke 12:11-12

Pray with us for these streams to flourish to multiple generations in that region.  Pray that our zero generation partners would never choose to forget to be diligent to not allow their hearts to be distracted from what the Father has entrusted.

DMM/CPM: Becoming the Kind of People Whom God Uses

By Dottie Collins with R Nyman

For the last decade or so, I have had the honor of praying with both men and women working on the mission field in many different nations. I have seen in my many conversations and prayer times that living life on the field is not simple or easily understood. Challenges include not only cultural differences but also issues closer to home: dealing with teammates, spouses and children, organizations, and loneliness.
Becoming Transformed Ones
No matter how much head knowledge we have or how well we can accomplish tasks, if our heart is not transformed and healed we can burn out quickly and become easily offended and bitter. I believe we can many times do things from a sense of obligation and not from a place of love – receiving the love God gives us as His precious sons and daughters so we can pour out His love on others. We struggle with getting things right and can easily slip into faulty attempts to earn God's love, rather than receiving and resting in His love. I don’t mean that if you feel burned out and at the end of your rope you are doing something wrong! I desire to see both men and women healed and hearts transformed before they go to the mission field so the pain can be minimized. I have seen this as one of the costs of going to the field and one of the greatest sacrifices "sent ones" make: the tendency to pour themselves out until they have nothing left to give.
I hope for men and women heading overseas to have as much of their heart healed as possible before going. If the past is not addressed, it is even more difficult to deal with the stresses of the present. I have repeatedly heard misguided Christian leaders say that Christians don't need counseling. As a result, those whom these leaders influence tend to show up on the field with “land mines” from their past which Satan eagerly triggers.
Hearts Transformed…Hearts Released
How can hearts be transformed and greater damage prevented? The issues which seem to surface most frequently, tend to be triggered by past hurt and pain. The past experiences of not feeling heard, validated, or valued tend to be strong areas of wounding. Also, I very often see a tendency to carry unforgiveness. Whether birthed through major trauma, taking offense, or from molehills that have been coddled as mountains. These choices to not forgive others, when unchecked, become significant opportunities for strongholds to take root. Small things, when unforgiven, eventually pile up into large things.
Through my own experience of feeling misunderstood and not heard, I have realized how such feelings can turn into unforgiveness, hurt, feeling rejected, feeling as though everything you do is wrong, resentment and anger.
Launch of Movements or Taking on Water?
Cultivating a heart that God can use is crucial to the launch of cascading movements to Christ among UPGs of the world. In reality, we will all be misunderstood and unheard at times. So, how do we deal with it? I recommend that we first recognize times when we have felt misunderstood and taken up an offense.  If we haven't dealt with such issues from our past, they tend to be exacerbated in the present. This can lead to feeling rejected and hopeless, and often self-pity enters in. Once we recognize these feelings, we can take them to God and talk honestly with Him about them. The Lord has reminded me repeatedly how gravely He was misunderstood and yet He has great compassion. It helps me to be reminded of how deeply our Savior was misunderstood and yet He did not defend himself. Yielding to Christ’s ways empowers me to let Him defend me and to choose to not defend myself.
Practical Steps to Become the Person Whom God Uses
§   If you have someone in your life who is safe and trustworthy, share with him or her how you feel and have them pray with you and for you.
§  Ask the Lord to show you any places where you have not recognized a hurt or offense.
This leads us to a second area in our lives: unforgiveness. When we don't forgive those who have wronged us, it becomes an obstacle to receiving the forgiveness and freedom the Lord has for us.
Identifying the Usual Suspects
These are the main areas of unforgiveness I have seen occurring among mission field workers, both expat and local:
§  Unforgiveness toward those who have wronged us (people or organizations).
§  Unforgiveness toward God.
§  Unforgiveness toward ourselves.
Step by Step…A Transformed Life
Here are some steps to take toward forgiveness:
§  First, name the person who has been hurtful to you.
§  Name each event, big or small, that God brings to your mind. After you name the person and the event,
§  Verbalize how you felt as a result of interaction with this person or event. For example it could be something like: “My father didn't come to my graduation and it left me feeling unworthy, unloved, rejected, and unimportant.” We often tend to rationalize rather than facing all the reasons the father couldn't come. We tend to not admit how badly we have been hurt. That is why it is important to list every person, event and emotion God brings to your mind. This doesn't mean you need to dig up and ruminate on everything ever done to you; simply focus upon the things revealed to you as you pray.
Many other traumatic things can happen in our lives and forgiveness alone doesn't bring total healing. However, the pathway to move toward healing ways is to honestly acknowledge and repent of any reactions we personally need to own, and to begin to replace those thoughts. This allows us to move into and receive the comfort and compassion that our heavenly Father wants to give us.  The areas of trauma and abuse especially need to be addressed with a safe and compassionate counselor.
Why might a human sometimes need to “forgive” God? Obviously God can do absolutely no wrong. Yet sometimes we hold things against Him because life didn’t go the way we wanted or imagined. Sometimes the simple reality that life has been much harder than we expected can build a wall of distrust. I personally have experienced holding unforgiveness toward God, admitting anger toward Him and needing to let go. Then, the healing can begin and freedom can flow.
Another area of forgiveness is toward ourselves. In intercession with others, I have seen a tendency to hold it against ourselves when our ministry doesn’t succeed the way we thought it should. Especially among full-time global workers, I have seen that when our children have difficult lives resulting from their own sinful choices, we sometimes tend to blame ourselves and/or God. As parents, we can fall under the weight of self-condemnation. This is a common area where we need to forgive ourselves. Obviously we need to take responsibility for our mistakes. But once they are confessed, the Lord forgives us and wants us to forgive ourselves and receive His forgiveness; not to walk in condemnation and guilt.
If our relationships are not right with others, it will be much harder to have an impact for the Kingdom. When we walk in woundedness and offense, we see life through a filter that is clouded. We have an enemy, Satan, who helps fuel our woundedness, pain, offense and self-pity. He would love for us to live from a victim spirit, inviting us to take offense at every turn.
Andrew Murray describes well these realities in "With Christ in the School of Prayer":
"When God's forgiving love takes possession of our hearts, we live in love. God's forgiving nature, revealed to us in His love, becomes our nature...If great injury or injustice occurs, try first of all to assume a Godlike disposition. Avoid the sense of wounded honor, the desire to maintain your rights, and the need to punish the offender. Take the command literally: 'Even as Christ forgave, so also do you'.........Our forgiving love toward men is the evidence of God's forgiving love in us." In John 13: 34, 35 Jesus says: "A new commandment I give you that you love one another; just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."
We can advance God's kingdom by loving each other: through forgiveness, mercy, grace, compassion and love.
God births movements. We, as followers of Christ, need to become the kind of vessels whom God uses in order to partner with His Spirit for the launch of these movements.
